St. Columba's Nursery School: Building the mind, body, and spirit through active play

Board of Governors

The St. Columba's Nursery School Board of Governors is empowered by the Vestry of St. Columba's Church to oversee the business of the Nursery School and to safeguard the School's mission. The Board is composed of up to fifteen voting and four ex officio members including the Rector and Wardens and the School's Director.



Meet our 2016-17 Board

Liz Holleman Brown, a life-long parishioner of St. Columba’s Church and a graduate of the Nursery School, joined the Board of Governors in 2012 and served as its Chairman for two years. Liz's children also graduated from the Nursery School and while they were there Liz enjoyed serving as the Parent Committee Co-Chair for three years. Liz is the corporate secretary and grant manager for the Richard Lounsbery Foundation.

David Hawkings (Treasurer) joined the Board in 2012 after six years on the parish vestry. A journalist who's covered Congress for more than 25 years, he is a columnist and the senior editor at CQ Roll Call. David and his wife Betsy live a block from the church and have been parishioners for two decades; their sons “graduated” from the Nursery School in 1995 and 2003.

Molly Evans has served on the Board of Governors since 2013. She is a healthcare lawyer at a law firm in Washington. She received her B.A. from Middlebury College and her J.D. from Washington & Lee University. She and her husband have been parishioners of St. Columba's for the past twelve years.  Their boys, Henry and Sam, are proud SCNS alumni.

Jim Barnett (Chair) has been a parishioner at St. Columba’s since 2000. He is a director of strategic intelligence analysis at AARP. and holds a master’s degree in nonprofit management from George Washington University. He lives in American University Park with his wife Susanna and two children, both graduates of St. Columba’s Nursery School. He has served on the Board of Governors since September 2013.

Shane Kramer (Secretary) joined the Board of Governors in 2015.  He and his wife, Maureen, have been St. Columba's parishioners since 2004 and all three of their children are Nursery School alumni.  Shane is an employee benefits attorney in Washington, D.C. and received a B.A. from the University of Virginia, a J.D. from Washington and Lee University, and an LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University.

David Burton, a long-time resident of AU Park, joined the Board in 2015. He is married to Anne Chrun and their two children attended St. Columba’s Nursery school. Currently a consultant, he was formerly Director of the International Monetary Fund’s Asia and Pacific Department and Chairman of the Investment Committee for the IMF’s pension fund.

Charlotte Hudson 

Katherine Martin has served on the Board of Governors since 2012.  Katherine is currently a Real Estate Agent in Washington DC and lives in American University Park with her husband and three children who all attended St. Columba’s Nursery School.  Katherine herself also went to St. Columba’s Nursery school many, many years ago and has been a member of the Parish for 17 years.

Katy Harvey has served on the Board of Governors since 2016.  She is the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid at National Presbyterian School and has enjoyed receiving many graduates of SCNS over her 15 years at NPS.  She received her B.A. from Duke University.  She and her husband have three children.
