Attend a Talk & Tour
For a child to be eligible for St. Columba’s Nursery School, a parent MUST attend one of our Admission Talk & Tours and complete an information card with contact information. Once we have your information card in hand, we will send you a link to the 2020-21 online application.
Talk & Tours attendee applicants receive priority consideration.
Current Talk & Tour Dates:
Talk & Tours for families interested in sending their 2, 3, or 4 year old to St. Columba's for the 2020-21 school year are scheduled for the following dates:
- October 22
- November 8 & 22
- December 11
- January 8 & 22
- February 7 & 26
You need not register for a particular date - just come when it is convenient for you. We don't begin to consider applications until after the last Talk & Tour.
Children are welcome to come with parents, but bear in mind that the talk and walk-about are geared for adults.
Talk & Tours begin at 9:30 am in the Great Hall of St. Columba's Church and last about 90 minutes. You'll learn about our program offerings, curriculum and philosophy. We'll end with a walk through the classroom and teaching spaces and across our two spacious, shady playgrounds.
Apply Online without Talk & Tour
If you are unable to attend one of our many Talk & Tours, you may apply online after the admission period closes on February 26. Please note that your application will be considered separately from those who attended a Talk & Tour. We will put a link to the 2020-21 application on this page at the end of the admission season in February, 2020.
An application fee of $75 is required and can be submitted in person, by mail, or online. We do not require testing or an interview for general admission.
All new applications must be received in the office by 4 pm on Friday, March 6, 2020. Decision letters will be mailed the following week. Your application is considered complete once you have paid the application fee to the school office by check or cash, or online by clicking the Pay App Fee button.
Although we normally begin the year fully enrolled, occasionally spots become available during the school year. If you hope to apply for the current school year, please call the office at (202) 742-1980 to inquire about the waitlist and the likelihood of a mid-year admittance.
Special Needs Applicants
Making sure that we are the right school for helping each child grow and learn is our top priority. We save a significant number of spots for children with a variety of challenges but are most successful with children who are interested in socializing with others and have some language abilities. After the application process is completed, children with known special needs are invited to come to a play date with their parents, typically these visits happen in early February. The play date gives us a chance to get to know your boy or girl to ensure that our program will meet his or her needs and help him or her to develop well under our care.
If you have any questions regarding the office at 202-742-1980. Our Inclusion Co-ordinator, Kathrin Gilbert, will be happy to talk with your about making application for a special needs candidate as well as about our program. Her extension is 208.
